Executive Director
Cameron Hunter has an MBA and an
MA in International Policy Studies with a specialization in Negotiation
and
Conflict Resolution, and is the current Executive Director of Global
Majority. She joined Global Majority in 2005 working for the local
education and training program. Originally from Santa Ynez, CA, she
received
her BA from UC Berkeley in English Literature. Prior to her position
with
Global Majority, Cameron worked as a researcher for the Center for
Nonproliferation Studies and editor of the GLOBE Management Review in
Monterey;
intern at the Palestine Israel Journal in East Jerusalem; horse trainer
in
southern Portugal; and with Mother Teresa's Home for Abandoned Children
in
Delhi. She has studied, worked and
traveled in Japan, Russia, Africa, India, Europe and the Middle East. Her
recent publications involve issues facing Iraqi scientists and academics during
the reconstruction of the state published by the Nuclear Threat Initiative, as
well as articles advocating negotiation between Israel and Palestine for the
Ma'an News Agency.
Program Director
Lejla Mavris is a founding member and currently the program director of Global Majority. She holds a Masters degree in International Policy Studies and a Certificate in Conflict Resolution from the Monterey Institute of International Studies. She received further training in conflict analysis through United States Institute of Peace. For the past three years Lejla has taught negotiation, mediation, and conflict resolution skills to students and teachers of Monterey County and beyond. She was as an assistant training consultant at the Institute for International Mediation and Conflict Resolution programs in Prague and Cyprus. Previously, Lejla worked at the United Nations Refugee Agency office in Geneva for the International Professional Service Semester, where she published work on refugee smuggling and migration. She served as an intern at the United Nations Development Programme in Sarajevo, BH. Lejla is from Sarajevo, Bosnia-Herzegovina.
NEPAL OFFICE DIRECTOR
Izumi Wakugawa is a native of Okinawa, Japan. She is a founding member of Global Majority, worked as Treasurer of the organization from 2003 to 2006. She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Politics at University of California at Santa Cruz, specialized in International Law and Political Theory, and has a Master of Arts in International Policy Studies with a Certificate in Nuclear Nonproliferation Studies from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, California. Ms. Wakugawa worked as a research associate and instructor at the National Security Affairs Department, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey California from 2002 - 2007. Izumi moved to Nepal in September of 2007, and remains there working with an orphanage while establishing Global Majority's Nepal office and planning negotiation and conflict resolution workshops for Nepalese government officials, journalists, civil society leaders, and university students.
ARTIST OUTREACH COORDINATOR
Brian Turlington is Global Majority’s Artist Outreach Coordinator, and
is on the Board of the Monterey County Film Commission. He is also a lawyer, concentrating on the
areas of Civil Litigation, employment law and land use, and also has his Masters
in Int'l & Comparative Law. He has
practiced law in the U.S. Virgin Islands, where he focused on complex
litigation defense and corporate transactional work. Brian also worked in the
business and legal affairs department of a large recording company and was
president of the Duke University Law School’s Sports and Entertainment Law
Society. His prior experience includes several years as a consultant to the
Czech Republic’s Ministry of Environment’s Economic Tools Division and as a
writer for The Prague Post covering the arts
and the emerging non-profit sector in the Czech Republic. Brian also managed a
successful contemporary music ensemble and worked for a recording company while
in Prague. He is married to a Czech national, and is conversationally fluent in
the Czech language.
DIRECTOR OF PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
Roseann Kassebaum. Originally from Portland, Oregon,
Roseann Kassebaum currently works as the Development Director for Global
Majority, while finishing her Master’s Degree in Public Administration
at the Monterey Institute of International Studies. After receiving
a B.A. in international relations, she lived outside Mexico City for
two months developing her Spanish, and then took part in faith-based
conflict resolution seminars in the U.S. In her career and life, she
strives to remove barriers to inter-cultural and inter-religious communication.
A track athlete in college, she now pursues fitness modeling and long-term
health. Roseann is an enthusiastic traveler, having backpacked through
Eastern and Western Europe three summers, and most recently through
Central America. She enjoys baking and experimenting with ethnic foods.
EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
Kit
Alviz was a service-learning intern from California State University
Monterey Bay when she began volunteering with Global Majority for the
conference, "On
Thin Ice" in 2008. After graduating with a degree in Global Studies, she
became the Executive Assistant and continues to assist in event
planning, report-writing, office management, marketing and outreach.
INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM COORDINATOR
Rebekah Hunt is originally from Massachusetts and went to undergraduate at American University in Washington, DC. She is currently seeking a Masters in Public Administration at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, focusing on Africa and Violence Prevention. Her main duties at Global Majority include coordinating the South Africa program, website maintenacne and analysis of various management practices. Bekah is a proud member of the Global Majority and in her limited down time enjoys surfing, movies and traveling.
